Event: Fix the missing space between sentences

It was found that the required space between sentences are issing on the summary on
the Upcoming events page as shown on this screenshot

One of the original event is from this page:

Graduate Degrees Enrollment Online Info Session

The Upcoming Events page is built by Event plugin. So to fix it, the post-process of the Upcoming page is required.

However, it’s a no-no to customize Event plugin’s own codes. So custom codes were set up in child theme to fix the missing space issue.

Since the Event plugin is not customized in any way, the future update of the Event plugin will not affect the custom codes, thus keep the feature intact.

This task was completed on 10/8/2024.

Fix: Community Events Calendar Page Error

The link to Community Services Events page caused 404 Not Found Error.

Fix: Events Section hour info display error

The Events Section on the Homepage should be based on the Timezone set up in the WordPress General settings which is “Los Angeles“

Currently the hour info displayed on the Homepage is different from the hour info entered in the Events.

Not to display the hour info if the Event is a whole day event.

Fix Date format on Chinese Event page

The Date format on Chinese page is wrong. The upper part should be Month, and lower part, Date.

This is just to show the correct Month/Date format on Chinese pages, the background CSS settings should be the same as the first screenshot.

Customizable texts

The Button Label cane be customized by the Editor through the parameter in the shortcode:

The pop-up message window if the user exit without finishing the form filling can also be customized by the Editor by setting the following parameters:

So to customize all available parameters, here is the example of complete shortcode

Current Design

The Sign Up form is built in or embedded as part of the page

New Design Reference

This design mainly contains 3 steps (or layers)

First step:

Display a CTA button for the user who plans to reserve a seat

On Desktop screen: the Reserve Seat section is on the right

On the Mobile screens, the Reserve Seat section is sticky to the bottom.

The video on the left shows that the Reserve Seat section stay at the bottom while screen is scrolling upward.

Second step:

Pop up a form for the user to fill in necessary fields over the existing page (become a background)

The Form is built with Gravity Form plugin.
Move current Form to this 2nd layer. (as shown on the right column below)

Third step:

On the second step, the user either
complete the form filling and click the submit button

or click close or exit icon abandoning the form filling.
In this case display another pop up message as the screenshot below…

Apply the design for DTCM/MTCM to pages mentioned above, except DAOM.

Display “There are no upcoming events for this program at the moment.” if there is no events available to display.

Design two kinds of “3 upcoming event announcements” content blocks. One to be placed in a full width section, the other, share the full width with left and right sidebars.

To fix:

Fixed: Display the Time Zone on a separate line below, as shown on the 1st screenshot above.

Bridge Admissions

This “3 Upcoming Events Announcement” will be used on several different pages. The shortcode should be designed such that it can be used on the lower section of a page where it takes up full width like “DTCM/MTCM Dual-Degree Program“, but also on a higher section on a page where it displays to the right of a sidebar such as “Bridge Admissions“.

There are FOUR Programs that require Upcoming Event Announcements as stated above.

Retrieve and display their own events on their own pages.

Not to apply one Programs events to all other Programs’ pages.

Set different Event Category for different Programs.

Fixed: The padding takes up too much space.
Cut the left-right padding from 30 px to 15 px.
